Barefoot sailing has been a popular summertime sport for many years now, and it has taken on a whole new meaning this summer when it has become a meme.
A new hashtag, #barefootsailing, has been trending across social media in recent days, with many people celebrating the fun and exciting activity.
This is especially exciting for those who have never sailed before.
“I’ve never really had a sailing experience.
I was just on a cruise when I was 13 years old,” said Dhananjay.
“So I was a bit lost in the world of sailing and how it works, and this idea of, you know, what if we went barefoot and just tried to go barefoot, and just kind of try to go to different places, and not really think about what I would do if I got wet, what would I do if it got really cold?”
Dhanandam says this has been her biggest inspiration to start a barefoot sailboat company.
“It’s kind of the ultimate dream of a kid,” she says.
“There’s just a feeling of, what do I want to do with my life?
And it’s kind-of been the way that I’ve always been thinking about the world.”
As the company has grown, so has the number of followers on its Facebook page.
Now, the group has nearly 500 members, with more than 100 members a day, Dhananyam said.
“We have more than 2,000 people on Facebook, and our community is growing every day,” she said.
And, as one of the world’s top Barefoot Sailors, Dansai is able to share the stories of those who travel barefoot.
“As soon as the boats come in, it’s like, wow, it has been so much fun,” she laughed.
“And it’s really a celebration of the whole thing, which is why we’ve decided to open up this brand.”
Dhanansay and her crew have been sailing barefoot for more than two decades.
“To be able to take on this kind of adventure and to be able do it barefoot has really been a dream for me,” she added.
“For me, it is so much about being barefoot in the ocean.
I mean, that’s how it started.
So when I saw this beautiful, magical world that was going to be open, and there would be barefoot people on the water, it was really exciting.”
“It has been amazing to see all of these beautiful people on this beautiful boat, and I have no idea what’s going to happen in a few months,” she continued.
“But I am really excited.”
As for what they will do if the water gets too cold, Dannysai and her group will have to look out for their gear and stay hydrated.
“A couple of years ago, we went through this whole process of just going on boats, getting on boats,” she explained.
“That was a huge struggle for us.
And then, obviously, the weather is a whole different thing now.
And we’re still going through the whole process with all of this stuff.”
Dannsai said she’s happy to be a part of the growing Barefoot Sports world, and hopes to make the trip to Hawaii someday.
“This is really the dream, and we have a great team of people working on it,” she concluded.
“Now we just have to wait and see.”
